I conducted a traffic stop on a van that had an expired registration. Upon contact with the occupants, I determined they were a large family of six children and the mother had no money to pay for the registration. Instead of impounding the vehicle, I followed them to their home, where there was no food, no Christmas tree, no gifts and an empty fridge. I later returned to my department and solicited the help of other officers and several other outside agencies. A week before Christmas, we paid the family a surprise visit. I wore my Elbeco uniform during the stop and during the visit to the home. The family was so grateful and I felt so good that I helped.
