On the morning of November 6, 2007, four members of Alliance Fire Department (AFD) were called upon to save the life of one of our own city workers. AFD was dispatched to an unconscious, non-breathing victim at the city garage. The firefighters arrived, to find a 49 year old male in full cardiac arrest. Employees at the city garage had initiated CPR and two Alliance Police officers were actively utilizing an automated external defibrillator when firefighters arrived. Upon arrival AFD took over patient care and worked on the patient for 23 minutes at the scene prior to transport. They performed CPR during transport; and continued CPR at the hospital for approximately 25 more minutes. The patient’s heart stopped numerous times, in fact, he was shocked 14 or 15 times. Due to the dedicated efforts of our city employees, police officers and firefighters, this individual is on the path to a full recovery.
