Not many things—not the Gateway Arch, not even the National League Cardinals—have been around St. Louis as long as Leon Uniform. The company is celebrating its 100th year in business this year.
After 96 years in the same location, Leon Uniform moved to a new address, quadrupling its square footage, adding dedicated parking, and introducing the many new stock items it now has room to show. These include the standard line of police, fire, sheriff, and EMS apparel, as well as specialty items—“pretty much everything except guns and ammunition,” explains fourth-generation president and owner Mike Seidler.
Leon Uniform has managed not only to stay in business for a century, but also to flourish thanks to its “service and personal relationships,” says Mike Seidler. “You have to have what the customer wants—and have it today—and you have to have very good personnel, people who care and people who want to be better. We want every customer to want to come back.”
And they do. Seidler says some of his customers are the children and even grandchildren of police officers and fire-fighters who were Leon Uniform customers.
The company encourages that kind of loyalty through its quality service and offering, as well as its community work. Leon Uniform donates significant resources to Backstoppers, an organization dedicated to helping the families of police officers and fire-fighters who fall in the line of duty.
Of his company’s relationship with Elbeco, Seidler says, “Integrity, trust, and honesty pretty much sum it up. They get it, and our success is their success.”
